Joseki Go Center is a sim and community of Go players in Second Life. You can visit the Joseki Go Center sim here. This site was created because there are some amazing Go players in our group and it seemed a shame to lose records of those games when the rest of us might be interested to see who played who and how the game turned out. So I modified the amazing Goban originally created by Dawn - it's a work of art! - and added some code that sends the result of each game together with the SGF record of the game to this website.
The main Games page on this site is simply a list of games played together with their SGF files. It isn't meant to be any kind of competition or ranking system.
We'd be delighted to get you started with how to play. Or if you're already a capable player we have players of all levels including dan level. We can find you a suitable oppoent to spar with. While we don't have official lessons there are several players who enjoy teaching the game. Contact Colonel Spaatz or Soosanne and we'll do our best for you.
For a great primer on how to play take a look at Online-go.com's Learning Pages.
In February 2023 we held our first tournament and we now run them every few months. Players compete over 5 rounds. Each round they have 1 match against an opponent selected by a MacMahon tournament system. Players usually draw an opponent around the same ability as themselves but where there is a disparity handicaps are given. Players have 3 days to arrange a match with their opponents and report the result. Games played on the tournament boards at the Joseki Center will automatically be uploaded to the tournament page here on the website. Full details of the tournament are available on the blackboards at the Center or by contacting Colonel Spaatz or Phillip1882 in game.
The boards at Joseki Go Club all have the game upload feature and if you want a copy of one of our boards for your own venue you can have one for free. Look for the board on the wall that says, "Click me for a free Go board". It's a free vendor that will give you the latest version of our goban. Dawn originally created this board and has very kindly made them open source and free to all. I am doing the same. The board has a config file that lets you turn off game uploading if you wish. Edit the contents of the board object and open the "goban settings" file. Here's a sample explaining what the options are:

We're a very friendly bunch. There's no pressure to play or take part in tournaments. If you have a passing interest in Go then please come and say hello. Any of our members should be welcoming but Colonel Spaatz or Soosanne are a good place to start.
